We ask that you be part of THE celebration: America’s 250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Indepedence

Local commemoration events have been underway for more than two years and, as we get closer to July 4, 2026, we seek your help to let us do more for you.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, North Castle will join communities across the nation in marking a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. This tribute offers us an opportunity not only to honor the sacrifices of the past, but also to celebrate our town’s rich Revolutionary War history, as well as the significant and important role North Castle played in the final victory for American freedom, reflecting the strong community spirit that continues today. While much has been accomplished so far, even more is planned in the upcoming months. But those programs, projects and events cannot be accomplished without your financial support.

To date, the Town of North Castle allocated $40,000 to cover:

  • the making of the film, North Castle: A Revolutionary Town, now available online; and

  • restoration of historic markers erected during the Bicentennial 50 years ago.

    Those and other funds were used to create:

  • celebratory Revolutionary War road banners for all three hamlets;

  • erect new signage at two Revolutionary War historic sites (Miller Hill and Mount Misery);

  • retrieve the Bicentennial time capsule buried in 1976;

  • initiate the Art In North Castle project in association with the Armonk Outdoor Art Show and the Byram Hills and Valhalla school districts;

  • develop committee websites and promotional posters; and

  • manufacture tee shirts and caps that celebrate North Castle’s Revolutionary War heritage.

    Additionally, in association with the North Castle Historical Society, the North Castle Revolutionary War 250 Steering Committee has been

  • represented at several town-wide and county-wide community events;

  • developed and sponsored a months-long historic exhibit at the Armonk branch of the North Castle Public Library;

  • conducted historic site tours; and

  • revitalized the Sands Mill historic site of its mill and barn foundations, sluice and original colonial road.

Proposed for the coming months are:

  • musical events, including a repertoire of 18th century compositions and a privately funded concert of patriotic music;

  • hands-on and inclusive programs with local schools, especially involving the Art in North Castle contest and materials for the North Castle 250th time capsule;

  • historic town cemetery restorations;

  • additional guided tours of town historic sites;

  • commemorative books/booklets/pamphlets; and

  • resupply of NCRW250 swag and merchandise (tee shirts and caps).

While we’re still months away from our great national celebration, more needs to be done here in North Castle, both before and after July 4, 2026. But again, none of it can be done without your willingness to be a part of your town and country’s heritage – with financial support.

Specifically, for events and activities to occur on July 4, 2026, funds will be needed to ensure events by underwriting the costs of:

  • re-enactors who have already committed to set up an encampment and recreate battle skirmishes; and

  • live bands, family games, local food vendors, swag, publications, and parade participants.

    And then there are those projects for which we can also offer sponsorship opportunities:

  • a 45+-piece orchestra at the gazebo on July 4, 2026;

  • a Patriots’ Monument, with the names of patriot soldiers buried in North Castle who “pledged their Lives, their Fortunes and their Sacred Honor” to be dedicated in front of Town Hall;

  • a parade procession of Flags of Honor/Words of Valor banners of 13 historic American flags with inspirational patriotic words, for eventual permanent display in town;

  • a Revolutionary War cannon for Miller Hill and perhaps another to be placed in front of Town Hall; and

  • new signage for Sands Mill to emphasize its significant contribution to the war effort and American freedom.

    If interested in the sponsorship opportunities, please contact us for further details and potential outlays.

As of now, all planned events throughout the months of celebration are free and open to the public. Your donation and support will directly fund programming, logistics and experiences that will ensure an unforgettable commemoration.

As we prepare, our heartfelt thanks to our fellow Committee members, with gratitude for your selfless volunteer service, without your guidance, expertise, experience, dedication, resolve, determination, sense of humor, and love of this town and country, none of what’s been achieved so far – and still needs to be done – would be possible.
